Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with the following:

Highly successful volunteer management track record recognized at state or national level;

Demonstrated experience leveraging volunteer, corporate and private-sector support for a range of projects including, but not limited to, beautification and capital improvement;

Documented experience coordinating and implementing exceptional volunteer and corporate sponsorship annual recognition programs and strategies.

A valid Texas Driver's License or the ability to attain one at the time of hire is required.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.

1. Oversee, manage, and evaluate the Parks and Recreation Department volunteer programs; research best practices in volunteer management and coordination, policy and procedural development; establish Annual Volunteer Plan in alignment with department business plan; oversee existing Adopt-A-Park Program; create and oversee Adopt-A-Tree Program; establish and report progressive program performance measures per City of Austin budget requirements.
2. Assist in the coordination, oversight and evaluation of fund raising activities, sponsorships, and other collaborations with the Parks and Recreation Department and community stakeholders.
3. Oversee community outreach initiatives including radio, television, print media, and personal speaking engagements.
4. Establish policies, plans, and procedures related to the Parks and Recreation Department's volunteer, community outreach, and fundraising activities.
5. Design and implement a volunteer application process; screen, interview and activate volunteers; establish Volunteer Training Certification Program; establish required waiver and minimum insurance; coordinate volunteers' assignments in collaboration with department priorities and needs based on volunteer interests, skills and risk management strategies.
6. Monitor and report cash and in-kind donations to the department, cost savings, and the overall performance of volunteer and fund raising programs.
7. Plan, oversee, and monitor program(s) budget preparation and adherence.

Knowledge of local community resources, civic and social organizations, and sources of volunteers.
Knowledge of basic principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
Skilled in supervising and planning the work of others.
Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Skilled in prioritizing multiple assignments, projects, and business needs.
Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy in all public contacts.
Ability to communicate in both verbal and written formats to a variety of audiences.
Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
Ability to analyze program(s) effectiveness and make recommendations for change and improvement.
Ability to respond to requests and inquiries from the general public and other City departments.
