Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor?s degree in Communications, Electronics, Engineering, or related field plus four (4) years of experience in the wireless communication field, with an emphasis on public safety voice radio systems, and at least, two years of which were in a supervisory/lead capacity.
Education or Experience may be substituted up to a max of four (4) years.
Licenses or Certifications:
Valid Texas drivers license, or ability to obtain Texas drivers license within 30 days of hire.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with multiple public safety agencies, disciplines, and jurisdictions sharing a large P25, trunked voice radio system.

Demonstrated ability managing complex projects involving multiple business units and organizations.

Demonstrated ability building consensus among divergent interests, organizations, and public safety disciplines.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1. Assists with oversight of the installation, repair, and activities for systems and equipment.
2. Provides support for reliable voice radio, mobile data, and other forms of wireless communication between agency users.
3. Ensures compliance with contracts and written agreements with vendors, private sector businesses and other governments.
4. Prepares analysis, research, and written reports on wireless communication issues
5. Assists with preparation and monitoring of radio frequency coordination and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license applications
6. Communicates verbally and in writing about wireless issues and tasks.
7. Develops and prepares for review short-term and long-term plans and proposed budget for wireless communication equipment and systems.
8. Assists departmental management in developing appropriate policies and procedures, directives, and staff and customer training programs.
9. Directs and oversees the activities and performance of division administrative support staff.
10. Performs project management duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Supervision and/or Leadership Exercised:
Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling, and recommendation for dismissal.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz conventional, and 700/800 MHz trunked radio systems.
Knowledge of microwave radio technology.
Knowledge of Federal Communications and Federal Aviations Administration rules, regulations and licensing procedures pertaining to wireless communications.
Knowledge of government purchasing laws and budgetary practices.
Knowledge of mobile data communications, automatic vehicle location, computer aided dispatch, and geographic information systems.
Knowledge of applicable wireless state and federal legislation affecting public safety and public service agencies.
Skill in the selection, training, and evaluation of employees.
Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other City employees, and the general public.
Ability to coordinate various information to prepare reports.
Ability to organize work effectively.
