Minimum Qualifications
This position will be filled at one of the following levels, depending on applicant qualifications.

Planner I: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field.

Planner II: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field, plus two (2) years of planning related work.

Planner III: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field, plus three (3) years of planning related work.

Planner Senior: Bachelor's degree in Planning, Geography, Social Science, Landscape Architecture, or a planning related field, plus five (5) years of planning related work.

ALL LEVELS:

Twelve semester hours of relevant graduate college course work may substitute for six months of required experience with a maximum substitution of two (2) years.

One (1) year of experience in Planning, related work may substitute for one (1) year of the required education with a minimum substitute of four (4) years.
Notes to Applicants
NOTE: Below are the essential duties specific to the department.

Review residential plans for new construction, additions and remodels.

Assist customers requesting information regarding residential construction.

Attend city council, board and commission meetings to provide technical advice and assistance.

Process Code amendments as assigned.

Serve as lead Planner to co-workers and assist with training.

Preferred Qualifications
AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) Certification preferred.

Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities
Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
1.Research and review urban land development proposals and studies.
2.Review preliminary site plans and prepare comments for zoning, land use, annexation, and variance cases.
3.Meet with members of the public, developers, and other city officials to respond to questions that are relevant to a
specific planning area or to planning in general.
4.Provide technical planning assistance to the general public, developers and other city officials.
5.Prepare reports and make presentations at public hearings regarding land use and other planning related initiatives.
6.Review subdivision plats and site plans for compliance with local regulations and ordinances.
7.Compile data/information for reports and cost estimates.
8.Analyze data to discover patterns and/or discrepancies.
9.Document data and findings on appropriate forms/logs.
10.Draw plans, diagrams, graphs, tables, charts, and maps using drafting and drawing tools.
11.Provide research information to more senior level planners as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or
without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
Knowledge of computer mapping and graphics technology.
Knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
Skill in collecting, analyzing and interpreting applicable research data and presenting it in a clear and concise manner.
Ability to explain and enforce City policies.
